WAYNE â Wayne County students hoping to learn in a virtual setting for the 2021-22 school year will be granted that option, according to Superintendent Todd Alexander. While the details are still being discussed, Alexander said there will be a âskeletal scheduleâ created to allow students who prospered during virtual learning or have special-needs requirements that are better met by virtual learning the opportunity to learn the best way they can. By allowing students to learn virtually, Alexander said the district will keep students enrolled in the public school system. âWeâre going to be updating our virtual school policy. There will be a skeletal schedule of virtual classes that are available for students who medically cannot attend in person or if we have parents that absolutely insist,â he said. âThe bottom line is we want to hold onto these kids. We donât want them to go to homeschooling.â ....
WAYNE â Following conversations with the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, Wayne County Board of Education members decided to postpone their decision to transition students to a four-day, in-person school week until COVID-19 numbers decrease. âHaving talked with the health department with more updated projections, they are projecting that the map metrics and the COVID numbers are going to result in us being in remote learning for an extended period of time, possibly even extended into February,â Superintendent Todd Alexander said. âThe evidence across the state shows that schools are not contributing to community spread. So if it is possible that we can go back into in-school learning, I do think it would be possible for us to do four days of in-person instruction.â ....
