A COVID-19 vaccination event on Sunday in Grants Pass.
COVID-19 vaccination efforts in Josephine County were complicated this week because of winter weather bringing snow and rain to Southern Oregon.
Health officials offered mass vaccinations on Sunday and Monday at the Josephine County Fairgrounds in Grants Pass. But snow and rain, and people having to stand in line, resulted in lower numbers than public health officials had hoped for.
“There’s a lot of mountains in this area and there’s a lot of roads that people are nervous driving on when we start getting icy weather. It’s important that people stay safe and we’re glad that people made the decision if they needed to, to stay home,” said Josephine County Public Health Director Mike Weber. ....

Josephine Co. prepares for large-scale vaccination clinics - KOBI-TV NBC5 / KOTI-TV NBC2

The county’s public health department says its taking some large steps to fix that issue.
“If we tried to do a vaccination clinic with the vaccines we do have on hand, we’d do twenty people and have to shut the door, so that’s not very viable,” says Josephine County Public Health Director Mike Weber.
In Josephine County, actually getting vaccines into the county is the issue causing slow rollout.
“We’ve only received three hundred doses here at Josephine Public Health,” Weber says. He said his department is working with Asante to address that issue.
“We’re able to partner with Asante system and they are going to provide a large quantity of the vaccine that they have been receiving to us to help roll out this large vaccination clinic.” Those large vaccination clinics will be aided by the National Guard. ....
