Divers Find Body Of Man Washed Off Pier

July 10, 2021 The body of an 80-year-old man who was washed off the north pier in St. Joseph on Thursday has been found. Officers from the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety were dispatched to the North Pier at Tiscornia Beach Thursday morning for a man needing help to get off the pier. The waves on Lake Michigan were estimated at 5 feet at the time. Officers arrived to find the man’s belongings in the lake, but did not find him. Family reported he had been fishing. The department says divers with the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department and Michigan State Police found the body of 80-year-old Sammuel Sohn, in Lake Michigan near the North Pier shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday. The St. Joseph Department of Public Safety says its prayers are with the family during this difficult time.

Officials say divers from the Michigan State Police and Berrien County Sheriff s Department have located the drowning victim, now identified as 80-year-old Sammuel Sohn, near the North Pier just before 6 p.m. on July 10th. Officers from the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety were dispatched to the North Pier at Tiscornia Beach for a man needing help to get off the pier on Thursday, July 8th, around 10 a.m.

House fire in Benton Harbor leaves one person dead By: Maura Johnson BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. – One person has died following a house fire in Benton Harbor Monday evening, the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety reported. At 6:49 p.m., the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety was called to a house fire in the 1100 block of McAlister Ave. in Benton Harbor. Upon arriving, safety officers saw heavy smoke coming from the downstairs apartment and heavy flames coming from the rear of the building. Bystanders told firefighters there was at least one person in the downstairs apartment, reports said. Both BHDPS and the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety made their way into the lower apartment and found a woman inside.
