I AM in Kate Forbes’s constituency, or at least in the Drumnadrochit part of this huge area, but I also travel to Moidart to visit my shellfish farm. My impression is that that the Unionist parties don’t seem to be bothering to campaign as far as posters on lampposts are concerned. It is only the SNP that seem to be doing that. The Tories, of course, have the money to give us voluminous mail shots, which for me go straight into the bin. I voted SNP 1 & 2 because my main purpose is to achieve an independence majority. Regretfully, that meant not putting my cross against Andy Wightman, but needs must. ....

Election 2021: Emma Harper in bid to oust Tories from Galloway and West Dumfries

EMMA Harper is putting health at the front and centre of her campaign to take Tory Finlay Carson’s Galloway seat.
The SNP missed out on winning the seat in 2016 by only 1514 votes, but this time round Harper believes focusing on the rural issues in the area will bring voters around.
The National spoke to Harper in Castle Douglas about the issues affecting the area and why an independence referendum would be good for residents in the constituency.
Harper, a former mental health nurse, said that health and wellbeing were her top priorities for the next parliament as the country recovers from the pandemic. ....

East Lothian – Young voters key to SNP taking seat from Iain Gray at Holyrood election

SNP candidate Paul McLennan hopes focusing on battling climate change and targeting young voters will bag him a win in former Scottish Labour leader Iain Gray’s constituency.
The hotly contested seat in East Lothian has not turned yellow in any Scottish Parliament election since its inception in 1999 but with the voting age now lowered to 16, McLennan said he is “cautiously optimistic” youngsters could make a dent in the 1127 votes that held it for Labour in 2016.
The National met with McLennan in Dunbar to talk about the key issues in the area and his plans if he is elected as the region’s first SNP MSP. ....

Ruth Davidson accused of breaching 'stay local' campaign trail guidance

RUTH Davidson has been accused of flouting public health guidance by campaigning outside the local authority where she lives.
The MSP for Edinburgh Central, whose home in the capital, appeared on social media earlier this week helping Tory candidate Oliver Mundell who is standing in Dumfriesshire.
She tweeted a picture of herself alongside Mundell and his father former Scottish Secretary David Mundell, adding: “Great to be out with Oliver Mundell and David Mundell across Annan and Moffat today. #TeamTory.”
However, guidance for political parties and activists published by the Scottish Government in March 11 and updated on April 16 states: “Campaigning activity not permitted: Some other traditional campaigning activities such as street stalls and physical hustings cannot take place at any point. ....
