A Sweetwater man named Stewart Kile Williams has been sentenced to roughly 15 years in prison after staging two different scams in Texas. The real cowpie-kicker? He committed the second scam while on trial for the first one.
The First Scam
Williams was first found guilty of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft in 2019. He had impersonated his former employer, Jones Alto Colorado Ranch, through phone and email to collect money from another cattle outfit, Wyatt Ranches, for the sale of cattle that Jones Ranch didn’t have. Williams was sentenced to 6 years in prison, and to pay $2 million of restitution out of the $2.5 million he made off the nonexistent cattle. ....

The Fifth Circuit affirmed a Southern District of Texas decision on Wednesday, ruling that the $2 million restitution fine should be given to Stewart Kile Williams, who pled guilty to wire fraud after reportedly claiming to broker cattle deals, taking the money, and “disappearing the herd.”
Wednesday’s opinion began with a question from the 1984 Wendy’s commercial, “Where’s the beef?” with the Fifth Circuit saying that is the question presented to them. Williams challenged the fees against him in the appellate court arguing that the United States, the plaintiff, had not determined which of the cattle he had sold and which he had stolen.  ....

Where s The Beef? Asks 5th Circ. In $2M Fake Cattle Sale Suit
Law360 (April 15, 2021, 4:34 PM EDT) The federal government answered the oft-asked question Where s the beef? when it proved a Texas cattle broker defrauded a ranch by ginning up fake cattle invoices, the Fifth Circuit said in a ruling affirming a $2.1 million restitution order.
Opening its opinion with a reference to the 1984 Wendy s ad, a Fifth Circuit panel said the federal government in the case had adequately detailed just how much loss Stewart K. Williams caused to Jones Alto Colorado Ranch when he began fabricating cattle sales. Williams was indicted three years ago and eventually pled guilty to four counts of wire fraud and was sentenced. ....

Sweetwater Man Responsible for Multiple Fraud Schemes
31-Year-Old Stewart Kile Williams of Sweetwater, Texas, could spend dozens of years behind bars for perpetuating two multi-million dollar fraud schemes that involved fake identities and forged documents.
Williams was in charge of selling a select number of cattle to the Wyatt Ranch when he lied to Jones Ranch management about Wyatt wanting to purchase more cattle than they originally agreed to.
Behind the scenes, Williams used another person s identity to create a false email account and forged invoices. He tricked both Jones and Wyatt into believing the transaction was legitimate, while pocketing more than $2 million dollars during the course of the scheme. ....
