Adesina Urges FG to Enhance Youth Competitiveness

The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has called on the federal government to embark on bolder measures to enhance the competitiveness of youths in order to match their peers on the global level.
He added that the government must do everything possible to reinvent itself by focusing on the youth population, adding that with a population of 206 million people, out of which 70 pent are under the age of 30 years, “what Nigeria does with its youth will determine the future of the country”.
He spoke virtually at the Joshua Generation International Youth Conference, themed: “Living with a Purpose,” held recently. ....

Invest in the Nigerian Youth, Stop Treating Them as Slaves - Adesina to FG

Akinwumi Adesina, the President, African Development Bank, AfDB, has advised the Federal Government of Nigeria to stop demarketing Nigerian Youths.
Adesina further told the Government to empower the youths in order to guarantee their global competitiveness.
Adesina made the call on Wednesday at the Joshua Generation International Youth Conference on the theme “Living with a Purpose.”
The former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development challenged the government to do everything possible to recreate itself by focusing on the youth, who represent the future of the country.
He enumerated some upsetting problems afflicting young Nigerians to include unemployment, limited technical and vocational skills, limited inclusion in social and political space, and lack of financing for ventures and businesses. ....

Chairman of the United Bank for Africa, Heirs Holdings and Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, Tony O. Elumelu, has said Africa would need to create 20 million jobs annually to tackle youth restiveness.
Elumelu who spoke to about 21,000 youths at the Joshua Generation International Youth Conference at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in Enugu state yesterday, said youth restiveness remains a ticking time-bomb in Africa.
“Millions of our young people are entering the job market every year; and 20 million jobs are needed to be created annually to absorb new entrants in the labour market. Only about three million formal jobs are being created annually across Africa and this was even before the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic outbreak,” he added. ....
