President of the AfDB, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, said this at a virtual High-Level Roundtable on Scaling up Financing for Youth Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Africa from Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire on Monday.
The webinar was tagged the “Rationale for the Creation of Youth Entrepreneurship Investment Banks”.
The AfDB had approved its Job for Youth in Africa Strategy to help create 25 million direct and indirect jobs and empower 50 million youth over a 10-year period. ....

Breaking News | AfDB Wants $5bn Mobilised For AFAWA, Tackling Youth Unemployment In Africa

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has called for the support of African public development banks towards the Affirmative Finance Action for Women in Africa (AFAWA) as well as tackling youth unemployment on the continent. President of the AfDB, Dr Akinwumi Adesina made the call, on Tuesday, at the virtual Finance in Common Spring meeting.
The meeting was convened in collaboration with the Association of African Development Finance Institutions (AADFI) and the International Development Finance Club (IDFC).
Adesina said AFAWA was an initiative to mobilise five billion US dollars in new financing in support of women businesses in Africa.
“As of today, we are working with 24 financial institutions in 15 countries and expect to expand that rapidly by 2022.” ....

Adesina Urges FG to Enhance Youth Competitiveness

The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has called on the federal government to embark on bolder measures to enhance the competitiveness of youths in order to match their peers on the global level.
He added that the government must do everything possible to reinvent itself by focusing on the youth population, adding that with a population of 206 million people, out of which 70 pent are under the age of 30 years, “what Nigeria does with its youth will determine the future of the country”.
He spoke virtually at the Joshua Generation International Youth Conference, themed: “Living with a Purpose,” held recently. ....
