The New York Civil Liberties Union is joining a coalition seeking transparency in the merger of Schenectady’s Ellis Medicine and Albany’s St. Peter’s Health Partners.
“We are really interested, as the entire coalition is, in the preservation of healthcare,” said Allie Bohm, policy counsel for the NYCLU.
Bohm said a couple of people from the coalition reached out to the non-profit civil rights organization regarding the forum and what was happening with the hospital merger. Bohm said the NYCLU will join tomorrow’s community forum on the merger, but will mainly be working in the background answering questions, forwarding questions and listening to what participants have to say.  ....

Despite the hardships, North Queens pushed through and celebrated many good times — award ceremonies honored its leaders, DJs played free concerts for neighbors, activists took a stand and more.
Here’s a look back at what the first six months of the infamous 2020 looked like in North Queens. ....

Council races in '21 — and '23 — and '25 | Queenswide

Dozens of candidates in the borough are campaigning for City Council runs in 2021, but because of a section in the City Charter the winners will only serve a two-year term.
“I think this is going to be a surprise to a lot of voters as well as candidates,” said Brian Browne, executive director for university relations, assistant vice president for government relations and a political science professor at St. John’s University.
More elections will be held in 2023 for two-year terms before returning to four-year terms in the 2025 elections. Citywide election winners including mayor, public advocate and comptroller will still operate with four-year terms. ....
