Lighthouse plans Memorial Day service | News, Sports, Jobs

The Dunkirk Historical Lighthouse and Veterans Park Museum, will be commemorating its 34th annual Memorial Day Service on Monday morning, May 31. The service will be co-sponsored by The Dunkirk Historical Lighthouse and Veterans Park Museum and the Knights of Columbus.
The service begins at 8:30 on the Lighthouse grounds at 1 Lighthouse Point Drive. The flags will be flown in memory of deceased board members Michael Vinciguerra and Nicholas Andin.

Michael P. Vinciguerra, 79, went on eternal patrol March 24, 2021. Michael was born Dec. 8, 1941, in Dunkirk, N.Y., to the late Rocco and Mary Ann (Messina) Vinciguerra.
Michael is loved and sadly missed by his surviving family, wife Jill (Aniszewski) whom he married on Jan. 6, 1984; three daughters: Stephanie (Ret, Capt, Robert) Roncska, Jennifer (Joe) Belovarac, and Julie (Alex Tadt) Vinciguerra; grandchildren Sophia and Zachary Roncska; and son, John Atzrott and family.
A lifelong resident, Michael was a 1960 Dunkirk High School graduate. After graduating, Michael enlisted into the U.S. Navy. While in the U.S. Navy, Michael served as an engineman, Petty Officer 3rd Class (EN3SS) aboard the submarine, USS Trigger SS-564. ....

Alberta, “Bert”, Marie (Szablewski) Catalano
Alberta, “Bert”, Marie (Szablewski) Catalano, 94, of Dunkirk, went peacefully to Heaven on Jan. 19, 2021, at Chautauqua Nursing & Rehab Center.
She was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on May 8, 1926. She was always proud to be born in Pittsburgh and moved to Dunkirk at the age of 16. Alberta worked at Van Raalte until she met and married her husband, Leonard Catalano on June 14, 1947, at Holy Trinity Church. They were able to celebrate 70 years of marriage.
Alberta was a devoted mother to her five children. She is survived by her son, Joseph (Katherine) Catalano of Grand Island, daughters: Lenore Fiebelkorn of Dunkirk, Georgian (Richard) DeForest of Cortland, N.Y., Frances Catalano of Dunkirk, son, Richard (Karen) Catalano of Fredonia; sister-in-law, Frances Roesler; and brother-in-law, Mark Clapps. ....
