CLINTON TOWNSHIP/MACOMB TOWNSHIP Prior to graduation, some local high school seniors were recognized in a special way.
The main focus at the May 11 Chippewa Valley Coalition for Youth and Families meeting was honoring graduating coalition teen council members.
This year, there are 15 coalition graduates from Dakota High School in Macomb Township and five coalition members from Chippewa Valley High School in Clinton Township. Overall, the district has nearly 100 youth coalition members.
Charlene McGunn, the coalition’s executive director, said at the meeting’s onset that the plan was to honor “our graduating coalition teen council members and acknowledging the many activities that have been conducted this school year.”

An initial investigation has determined that calls made about an active shooter situation were set up by a Dakota High School student.
Around 1:30 p.m. April 19, Macomb County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Dakota High School in Macomb Township for an active shooter incident.
“Multiple deputies responded and cleared the building finding no evidence of any type of shooting,” an April 20 Sheriff’s Office press release states. “All students and staff, who had gone into a school lock down, were safe and unharmed.”
Police say that dispatch received a call from a male stating he had been shot in his home. The male then gave Dakota’s address as the address where he had been shot. The caller then ended the call.
