Henson Efron has new digs in Capella Tower
Minneapolis law firm Henson Efron designed its new Capella Tower office to embrace a new way of work.
Capella Tower is a 58-story certified LEED Gold building in the center of downtown Minneapolis that was built in 1992. The building’s distinctive crown is an icon on the Minneapolis skyline.
The new office supports how the nature of work has evolved over the past year and incorporates flexibility that will continue into the future, Henson Efron says. The 45-year-old firm will occupy 15% less space than their previous footprint at U.S. Bank Plaza.

Mitchell Hamline names Michael Birchard as first Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion – News and Events

President and Dean Anthony Niedwiecki has announced the appointment of Michael Birchard to be Mitchell Hamline’s inaugural vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
“Michael was universally praised by those who interviewed him over the past few weeks,” noted Niedwiecki, in an email to faculty and staff. “He is one of the top DEI leaders in the Twin Cities and an innovative senior leader at his current institutions.”
Birchard will be part of Niedwiecki’s executive leadership team and will engage with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the broader community to lead the campus in developing a vision and strategy for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. The goal will also be to position Mitchell Hamline as a leader around these issues.

Peterbilt Motors Company is excited to work with local schools through the over 400 Peterbilt locations to promote medium and heavy duty truck and engine education in the classroom. Partnering with high schools and community colleges, the goal is for students to continue their education into a great career as a diesel technician through the Peterbilt Technician Institute. Schools receive official Peterbilt training and access to technical information, which is integrated into their curriculum to prepare students for a career as a Peterbilt technician.
A pilot program held at Dakota County Technical College with Allstate Peterbilt in Rosemount, MN was a resounding success, with faculty excited about providing another career path for their students. Following on that success will be future classes at the high school level with Taylor High School in Taylor, TX in conjunction with the local Rush Peterbilt dealer.

With college costs mounting and student debt remaining a hot topic of conversation, public opinion on four-year colleges has begun to shift, as people contemplate whether they are in fact the only—or best—option for all students. An estimated 8.7 million undergraduates enrolled in public, two-year colleges during the 2016–17 academic year, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. A 2019 study from TD Ameritrade found 36 percent of Gen Z students considered attending a community college before a four-year college, while 21 percent considered attending a community college instead of a four-year college.

Following a cyberattack on the Colonial Pipeline company that has temporarily shut down much of the company’s operations, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has issued an hours of service waiver for drivers hauling fuel throughout Colonial’s market.
The waiver applies to those transporting gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and other refined petroleum products to Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

The waiver applies when drivers are providing direct assistance supporting emergency relief efforts hauling the fuels in the affected states. Direct assistance ends when a driver or commercial vehicle is used in interstate commerce to transport cargo or provide services not in support of emergency relief efforts related to the shortages of gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and other refined petroleum products due to the shutdown, partial shutdown, and/or manual operation of the Colonial Pipeline system in the covered states, or when the motor carrier dispatches a driver or vehicle to another location to begin operations in commerce.
