Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom is retiring after serving as the county attorney for over 33 years.

HASTINGS, Minn. (FOX 9) - Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom is retiring next month after serving as the county attorney for over 33 years.
In a letter to the Dakota County Board of Commissioners Friday, Backstrom announced his resignation as the Dakota County Attorney and retirement, effective Feb. 27. He said he was making the decision due to some health issues that have become worse in recent years.
Backstrom has spent nearly the entirety of his legal career with the Dakota County Attorney’s Office, beginning in 1977 when he was hired as a law clerk in the office’s civil division while still in law school. HASTINGS, Minnesota Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom has announced plans to retire next month.
In a letter to county commissioners, Backstrom cited health issues as the reason for his retirement on Feb. 27, nearly two years ahead of the scheduled end of his current term on Jan. 1, 2023.
While I look forward to my retirement, I am also saddened to be leaving my work for this great community after so many years of service, Backstrom wrote in his letter to the Dakota County Board of Commissioners. ....

Cops tried to buy gun from Dolal Idd in undercover operation before fatal shooting

Dolal Idd, 23, was shot dead by Minneapolis police on Wednesday as they attempted to arrest him
Search warrant documents released Monday revealed cops suspected Idd was illegally selling firearms
They were being helped by a confidential informant to buy a MAC-10 high capacity pistol from Idd before the shootout in which he was killed began
The confrontation happened about 6.15pm Wednesday in a gas station on the south side, about a mile from where George Floyd died under knee of a cop
Preliminary reports have concluded Idd shot at cops first
