DCI launches Yard Tug 811 for US Navy

U.S. shipbuilding company Dakota Creek Industries has launched YT 811, the second harbor tug in a series for the U.S. Navy.

This is the Navy’s fourth YT 808-class harbor tugboat. A total of six is being built under the contract with Dakota Creek Industries. The contract was awarded in July 2018.
YT 808 is the first Navy vessel constructed to meet EPA Tier 4 marine diesel engine emission standards.
The vessels are designed after the Navy’s existing YT 802 Valiant-class tugs

Kitsap Transit Acquires Vessel From San Francisco Bay

Bremerton, Wash. ferry operator Kitsap Transit said it has purchased the secondhand passenger vessel Solano for approximately $1 million from the San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA),
The sale closed last Friday following approval by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). The federal government has an interest in the 125-foot high-speed ferry that dates back to 2004, when the City of Vallejo, Calif., used a federal grant to buy the 320-passenger catamaran for $11,165,604 from Anacortes, Wash. shipbuilder Dakota Creek Industries.
Required by the California Air Resources Board to meet stricter air quality standards, WETA concluded it would be more cost-effective to sell Solano than retrofit it. ....

YT 808 tugs are Navy's first to meet Tier 4

The U.S. Navy’s new fleet of six 90 foot by 38 foot 3 inch YT 808-class tugs are its first built to meet the EPA Tier 4 Final diesel engine emission regulations. Each is powered by twin Cat 3512E marine engines, each rated at 1,810 horsepower. The engines drive two Schottel SRP 340 fixed-pitch Z-drive thrusters providing a top speed of 12.5 knots and an expected bollard pull of 40 metric tons.
The tugs are being built by the Dakota Creek Industries shipyard in Anacortes, Wash. The first was launched earlier this year in October after completing the last construction phase. ....
