On Monday, May 10, St. Thomas City Council approved fishing and non-motorized watercraft on the lake which is in a residential area just south of Pinafore Park.
A motion was brought forward by councillor Gary Clarke who felt his colleagues wanted it open despite voting down a $50,000 study to see if recreation would be environmentally feasible. ....

Project Tiny Hope affordable housing project underway in St. Thomas

LONDON, ONT.
Community partners in St. Thomas have launched the Project Tiny Hope affordable housing project.
It ll be located at t 21 Kains Street and it s a partnership between the YWCA St.Thomas-Elgin, Sanctuary Homes and Doug Tarry Homes.
The project will include 20 tiny homes and a multi-story apartment building with green space and community gardens.
“Our goal is to provide housing that is affordable while enhancing the community”, says Marla Champion, Executive Director of YWCA.
A $200,000 donation was provided by Sanctuary Homes to purchase the lot, a $1.5 million capital campaign has now begun.
The site requires an extensive environmental clean-up and Doug Tarry Limited has donated $280,000 to cover the cost. ....

Dusty is conservation areas supervisor for the Catfish Creek Conservation Authority.
And Victor Herrington of Sparta is the keeper.
Victor, 68, is a long-serving volunteer at the Springwater Conservation Area. Heck, with 21 years under his belt, he’s the longest-serving volunteer on the conservation authority’s roster.
His dedication now has been recognized by the Ontario government. Victor is one of 10 individuals and six volunteer organizations to receive the June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Volunteerism, named for one of Canada’s most well-known social activists. ....
