First up: Inverclyde Ramblers By John McIndoe & Thomas Jones, Inverclyde Ramblers Start: Newark Castle, Port Glasgow Distance: 5 miles/8 kilometres Time: 2.5 to 3 hours Terrain: Established tarmac path and concrete walkway with a short walk along the sandy beach to reach the burn. Level: Suitable for almost everyone. A flat level walk along the coastal path – with no hills. Access: Easily accessed by train or bus to Port Glasgow. If travelling by car follow the A8 and at Port Glasgow take the turn-off to Ferguson’s shipyard – follow the road past the yard gates to a large car park beside Newark Castle. A computer-generated image of the proposed artwork on the riverside framing Dumbarton Rock - this time not including the ‘family’ element which was part of the image featured in the Reporter last month PLANS for a new piece of public art on the banks of the River Leven at Dumbarton Harbour certainly got residents talking when they were revealed in the Reporter a few weeks ago. And now people in the town are to get the chance to find out more about the proposals – and about the work that has gone into putting them together. The plans, by Dunbritton Housing Association (DHA), whose development of 150 new homes on the site of the former Ballantine’s distillery was recently completed, are currently awaiting a decision from West Dunbartonshire Council officials. ....
