Amarion Anderson, a senior at Manning High School, recently won the Optimist Club of Clarendon’s essay contest based on a theme of “Is Optimism the Key to Achieving the Dreams you iMagine?” He was recognized for his-first place achievement by club president, Lisa Justice, and vice-president, Johnny Weeks, at the club’s meeting on April 15 at Porter Jacks Restaurant in Manning. ....

Lakeside pullers operate on all cylinders

Lakeside Pullers is a non-profit pulling club located in Ram Bay at 1425 Hamilton Road, Manning, South Carolina. Lakeside pullers are similar to truck pulls and tractor pulls, but they only pull lawn garden tractors, v8 pulling tractors, and motorcycle pulling tractors. They pull a sled 300 feet and the person who pulls the farthest wins a personalized trophy made by Allen Smith. An average pulling season is from April to November, and they pull on the first and third Saturday of the month. Anyone from the age of 2-80 can be seen pulling in these events with about 50 members in the club. A couple of families, including the McLeod family, got together and were the ones who created the club. They have been pulling for over 10 years. They have pulled in Panola, SC and Summerton, SC, and they have had their current location in Ram Bay for about 4 years now. The land is owned by club members, Lakeside Pullers. Jr. Chamber sends third round of donations

The Clarendon County Junior Chamber of Commerce is back at it again with a third round of donations to local charities and non-profits.
Since January, the Jr. Chamber has made it their goal and mission to give back as much as possible to the community, and they have done just that.
With their first donation, the Jr. Chamber made out a check in the amount of $5,000 to the Turbeville Children’s Home for the purchase of food, supplies, and other items.
After that, the Jr. Chamber headed steadfast to the Clarendon County Council on Aging to pay some much-needed attention to the senior citizens of Clarendon County with another cash donation. That donation funded the ever-growing meals-on-wheels program which provides meals to less-fortunate senior citizens throughout Clarendon. ....

Rotary Club of Manning providing for area children

Although they are not meeting face to face yet , the Rotary Club of Manning is still doing great things for the community. In December, the club provided the Turbeville Children’s Home with funds to purchase items for the children’s dorm rooms.
The club also purchased 52 coats for students at Walker Gamble Elementary as well as 50 coats for the children in Clarendon School District Two and assisted Manning Elementary in providing gift bags for the teachers. Disinfectant sprays and wipes were included in the gift bags. ....
