The SpaceX site in Texas will be supplied by at least five nearby gas wells, along with two gas-fired power plants, according to an FAA document.
(Bloomberg) Elon Musk became the richest man in the world thanks to enthusiasm for Tesla Inc.’s sleek electric cars and the company’s stratospheric stock price. But while Musk is perhaps the most well known clean energy CEO, SpaceX, his other company, is likely to rely on drilling for natural gas to power Starship, the new spacecraft and rocket designed to carry humans to the moon, Mars and beyond.
Musk’s SpaceX aims to use a site in South Texas to launch rockets to carry people and cargo to the moon and Mars. To do that, the company intends to drill gas wells to make its own fuel and electricity, according a Federal Aviation Administration document seen by Bloomberg. ....

Elon Musk is aiming to drill gas wells in South Texas to make its own fuel and electricity to power its Starship spacecraft, Bloomberg has reported.
What Happened: According to Bloomberg, Musk s space company SpaceX is looking to drill wells close to the company s Boca Chica, Texas, launchpad that previously hosted prototype launches for the company. The Texas SpaceX site will be supplied by at least five nearby gas wells, along with two gas-fired power plants.
However, these plans are on hold due to a legal dispute between the SpaceX subsidiary Lone Star Mineral Development and Dallas Petroleum Group, which claims ownership of some inactive wells sitting on the same land. ....

(Bloomberg) Elon Musk recently moved to Texas, where he launches some of his rockets and is building a battery factory. Now, for good measure, he plans to drill for natural gas in the state.
The billionaireâs SpaceX intends to drill wells close to the companyâs Boca Chica launchpad, it was revealed during a Friday hearing before the Railroad Commission of Texas, the stateâs energy regulator.
Production has yet to start because of a legal dispute between the SpaceX subsidiary Lone Star Mineral Development and another energy company. Tim George, an attorney representing Lone Star, said at the hearing that SpaceX plans to use the methane it extracts from the ground âin connection with their rocket facility operations.â ....
