Renaissance Academy named top PA charter school in annual U.S. News & World Report ranking

PHOENIXVILLEÂ â Renaissance Academy has been named the top ranked charter school in Pennsylvania according to U.S. News and World Report.
Each year the national magazine publishes its rankings of the best high schools in America, looking at 24,000 high schools across the country.
The U.S. News & World Report ranked the Renaissance Academy Charter School 20th out of all Pennsylvania Public High Schools and the No. 1 ranked Pennsylvania Charter School on the list.

What began as a simple story assignment for a school newspaper ended up a trigger for parental hysteria and a brush with comic genius.
It involved an “encounter session” guidance counselor Marjory Volk had conducted in four sociology classes at the high school in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, a town of about 7,000 people 33 miles west of Philadelphia and the location of the 1958 sci-fi classic “The Blob” starring Steve McQueen.
I was the student writer given the assignment in January 1972, my first year on the paper. If I’d had some experience or even some common sense, I’d have talked to the guidance counselor and the sociology teacher for their explanations of an encounter session, and then asked them for the names of some students who could offer informed comments. ....

John Kincade's return to Philly airwaves brings his life full circle

John Kincade always dreamed of being a radio sports talk show host in Philadelphia. His voice was heard above everyone’s over the raucous high school lunch-table debates.
On Monday, January 4, the 56-year-old Broomall, Delaware County native, Cardinal O’Hara and Temple graduate will be debating again with an entire city, his city, when the “John Kincade Show” is baptized as the flagship program for 97.5 The Fanatic’s new morning drive show from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Kincade, a two-time cancer survivor who hosted a national show for 15 years, comes back home after spending over 20 years in Atlanta, Georgia, the last two decades as the host of a popular afternoon radio program in Atlanta called the “Buck and Kincade Show,” with former Georgia quarterback Buck Belue. ....

Downingtown vocal group a winner in contest

DOWNINGTOWNâDowningtown East Vocal Assembly from Chester County has been selected one of eight winners in the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture s fifth annual Oh Say Can you Sing contest.
The vocal group is led by Choral Director Adam Speakman. Downingtown High School East often takes students from its science department to the Farm Show.

The video submissions for these eight winners will debut at 7 a.m. daily, Jan. 9 through Jan. 14 on the Pennsylvania Farm Show Facebook page and the Pennsylvania Cable Network.
âIn past years, early in the morning at the Farm Show Complex, before large crowds arrive, the national anthem was broadcast throughout the building by talented Pennsylvania singers. Exhibitors and vendors preparing for the day would pause in unity to listen,â Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding said. âAlthough, because of the global pandemic, we cannot be together in person this year, Iâm glad we are able ....
