S-2682) was approved Tuesday by the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee and would, upon further approval, ensure that anyone suffering from unusual conditions receive suitable care by establishing the New Jersey Rare Disease Advisory Council.
“The ongoing pandemic makes it more vital than ever to help those who are impacted by rare illnesses that are often difficult to diagnose and treat,” Senator Kean (R-21) said in a statement. “Genetic mutations are responsible for causing many of these ailments that can be passed down through generations, often resulting in suppressed immune systems or respiratory problems for patients. This makes them especially vulnerable to COVID and its life-threatening effects.” ....

Manahawkin man in more trouble following LEH accident

The Manahawkin man behind the wheel of a car that put two teenagers in the hospital with critical injuries was arrested Monday and now faces charges of Aggravated Assault and Assault by Auto in addition to Reckless Driving and Failure to Maintain his lane, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced.
It all stems from a car accident that occurred on Saturday night around 9:45 near Radio Road and Baltusrol Court in Little Egg Harbor.
The investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Vehicular Homicide Unit and Little Egg Harbor Police revealed that Michael Pillarella, 26, was traveling northbound on Radio Road when he didn t drive properly through a curve in the roadway and then crossed over the centerline where he struck an oncoming 2006 Toyota XB traveling southbound. ....

Manahawkin man injured and facing charges in LEH accident

A Manahawkin man is charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain his lane stemming from an accident that occurred near Radio Road and Baltusrol Court in Little Egg Harbor Saturday evening, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced on Sunday.
Little Egg Harbor Police responded around 9:45 pm to a report of a two-vehicle crash with serious injuries.
Michael Pillarella, 26, of Manahawkin, was heading northbound in a 2017 Hyundai Elantra on Radio Road when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, crossed over the centerline, and struck an oncoming 2006 Toyota XB traveling southbound on Radio Road, according to a joint investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Vehicular Homicide Unit and Little Egg Harbor Police Department. ....

Holy Wind Batman! Hundreds lose power in northern Ocean County

Even Winnie the Pooh and Batman too would be blown away by the wind gusts since Thursday evening.
On Friday afternoon, more than 1,500 people lost their power in Ocean County with most of the outages,
according to JCP&L, coming in Seaside Park and a few hundred in the Ortley Beach section of Toms River.
The numbers have fluctuated on JCP&L s map all afternoon especially for Seaside Park with the height being around 1,400 without power to around 400.
Toms River OEM Coordinator Paul Daley tells 92.7 WOBM News that as of 4:30 pm that the power out in Ortley Beach is down to a 3-block grid. ....

Little Egg Harbor going virtual at elementary school due to Covid

The George J. Mitchell Elementary School in Little Egg Harbor is going virtual for the next couple of weeks due to a recent rise in Covid cases.
Principal Deniese Guinan wrote a letter to parents on Thursday saying the Department of Health made the recommendation they operate virtually for 14 days.
The hope is to open back up again on February 12.
The teachers are fully prepared to pivot to virtual instruction and will continue to provide high quality lessons for your children. I understand that this may pose a temporary inconvenience for you, but please know your child’s safety is our top priority. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding during this unprecedented time as it is essential that we follow the recommendations of the Department of Health, Guinan said in the letter. ....
