TUSCOLA COUNTY The company that was hired to do building codes, as well as health department issues, dominated a recent six-hour Tuscola County meeting.
For the last few years, a variety of complaints have been about South Central Michigan Construction Code Inspections service regarding building codes.
On March 31, Cass City Village President Daniel Delamarter wrote to the Tuscola County Economic Development Corporation about issues the village is having with SCMCCI.
“The village has received numerous complaints about the excessive requirements and inspections requested by SCMCCI, wrote Delamarter. As the village seeks to draw new business and grow, SCMCCI is presenting an obstacle that we have no control over, that is stopping economic development. ....

TUSCOLA COUNTY The number of marijuana businesses in Tuscola County, especially in the Vassar area, came up during the latest commissioners meeting.
At first, voters in the state approved the use of medical marijuana, and then in 2018 voters approved the use of recreational marijuana for those over the age of 21.
Commissioner Dan Grimshaw said he received a call about such a company wanting to open in Millington, and it is facing opposition.
“I reminded them to look at the votes that go back to that (issue), Grimshaw said. Look at the votes that occurred in your area. (Recreational marijuana) did not prevail. ....

CASS CITY Because of all of the services the Tuscola County Economic Development Corporation has provided to the village of Cass City, the council didn’t think twice about approving a $7,500 allotment to the agency for another year of service.
Last year the EDC helped the village with brownfield redevelopment funding for the Cultural Center, the Nestle Building, and TI Automotive.
“We helped them to begin the process to restore those properties to full commercial use,” said EDC Director Steve Erickson. Our agency is looking forward to receiving a second EDP grant to continue commercial and brownfield redevelopment in Cass City and throughout the county. The EDC has also implemented a new program that can provide grants to businesses facing an unforeseen emergency.” ....
