JAMSHEDPUR: State BJP spokesperson Kunal Sarangi has challenged health minister Banna Gupta to make public any report which says people in Jharkhand have died due to the lack of oxygen during the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sarangi’s challenge came after Gupta claimed that the Centre lied when it said there were no oxygen-related deaths during the second wave. Gupta had also said there were shortages of oxygen in the state and the policy adopted by the Centre in the distribution of oxygen made Jharkhand suffer during the period.
The BJP leader said Jharkhand had then reported no oxygen-related deaths and claimed that Gupta had done a volte-face like other opposition-ruled states in the country.
Ranchi: Jharkhand has a total of 160 Mucormycosis (black fungus) reported cases across the state of which the majority are reported from seven districts. Of the total, 101 cases have been confirmed while 59 are suspected to have the fungal infection.
The health department records said patients who have been suffering from the infection are being treated at 11 healthcare facilities across the state which include the state’s largest hospital Rims here. Apart from Rims, MGM Jamshedpur and Hazaribag Medical College and Hospital are the other medical colleges that treat black fungus patients.
Six private hospitals Medica, Raj, Maa Ram Pyari, Life Care and Dr Lal Hospital in Ranchi and Tata Main Hospital in Jamshedpur are also treating the infected patients.
