Iowa man sentenced to up to three years in prison for burglary of Fremont business


A 62-year-old man was sentenced to 14 months to three years in the Nebraska State Penitentiary for robbing a Fremont business in the Dodge County District Court Monday.
Jimmy D. Dinovo of Council Bluffs, Iowa, was ordered to pay restitution to the company for the burglary charge as part of the joint recommendation, which included a 14-month prison sentence.
“That’s a favorable recommendation,” Judge Geoffrey Hall told him. “I was going to give you more time than that.”
On Feb. 27, 2020, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a burglary at Platte Valley Equipment. The business reported that one battery, valued at $50, had been stolen. ....

Fremont man sentenced to 200 days for fleeing arrest in vehicle pursuit

A 40-year-old Fremont man was sentenced to 200 days in jail for operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest and driving on a revoked driver’s license Monday.
Andrew W. Whitley was also sentenced to 12 months of probation by the Dodge County District Court.
On Aug. 19, 2020, a Dodge County Sheriff’s Office deputy observed Whitley inside his vehicle, which had plates that had expired three months prior.
After pulling the vehicle around, the deputy watched as Whitley’s car rapidly accelerated into an alleyway without signaling its turn. He continued to drive “with total disregard for the safety of people, property and vehicles within the downtown area,” according to the report. ....

Fremont man sentenced to jail term, probation on refusal to submit to chemical test

A 32-year-old Fremont man was sentenced to 120 days in jail and 30 months of probation for refusing to submit to a chemical test and driving while revoked Tuesday.
Andrew J. Craig pleaded no contest to the two counts on Nov. 23, 2020, and was found guilty by Dodge County District Court Judge Geoffrey Hall.
“At first blush, this case clearly looks like a prison sentence of significant time,” Hall said. “But I’m going to give you the privilege of probation, and I’m doing that primarily because there’s been basically a 10-year gap. I do believe that people change.” ....

Ex-Fremont police officer gets prison for child sex assault

FREMONT, Neb. (AP) - A former Fremont police officer has been sentenced to more than two years in prison for sexually assaulting a child.
Austin Williams, 35, was was sentenced Wednesday in Dodge County District Court to 30 months in prison, the Fremont Tribune reported. Williams was convicted of third-degree sexual assault of a child last October following a six-day trial.
Authorities began investigating Williams in 2018 after an advocacy center notified the Nebraska State Patrol of a possible assault. Prosecutors said Williams began the abuse in 2016, when the child was 10 or 11, and continued until August 2018. ....
