Gonzalez Helps Secure CARES Act Grant For MAGNET

Representative Anthony Gonzalez helped secure a $624,316 grant from the US Economic Development Administration for The Manufacturing Growth and Advocacy Network (MAGNET) to launch a new program to help manufacturing companies in Cuyahoga County in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last year, Gonzalez led a letter to then Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, requesting $650,000 through the CARES Act to implement a program to help over 200 small and medium sized manufacturers in Cuyahoga County rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nearly 17% of Ohio s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) comes from manufacturing accounting for about 700,000 jobs statewide, Gonzalez said. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought on significant economic challenges for businesses to grapple with. Lake Superior State University receives $950,000 CARES Act Recovery Assistance grant


SAULT STE. MARIE, MI    Lake Superior State University received a $956,858 CARES Act Recovery Assistance grant from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) within the U.S. Department of Commerce to purchase lab equipment to build capacity at the Center for Freshwater Research and Education (CFRE).

The project, to be located in a Tax Cuts and Jobs Act Opportunity Zone, will be matched with $239,215 in local funds, is expected to create 20 jobs, and generate $14.2 million in private investment. Opportunity Zones are meant to spur economic development nationwide; there are 288 in Michigan.
“We are ecstatic about this grant because it allows us to leverage our new building and our location at the nexus of three Great Lakes to become leaders in freshwater science and training while also creating opportunities to expand blue economy sectors in our region,” said CFRE Director Dr. Ashley Moerke. ....

CANTON One of the multiple goals of Canton Mayor Kent McDowell over the last few years has been to make much needed and necessary improvements at the City of Canton Water Treatment Plant.
The hitch, as with most projects, has been cost.
Earlier this week, McDowell was notified a grant they had applied for with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) had been approved in the amount of $1,026,637.
The money, which will be used for the City of Canton Water Treatment Plan Improvement Project, was also announced by  Trump Administration U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. ....

Jefferson City receives $1.5 million grant to support commercial redevelopment project in opportunity zone

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross reports that Jefferson City will receive a $1.5 million grant to support the commercial redevelopment of the historic Missouri State Penitentiary site.
The Trump Administration is committed to helping American communities recover from, and build back stronger, following natural disasters, said Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. This project will address the regional need for economic development opportunities in the aftermath of the devastating floods and tornadoes of 2019.
$1.6 million in local funds will match the grant and create up to 67 jobs and generate nearly $28 million in private investment. ....
