Knife barely misses Danville court security officer

DANVILLE, Va. – A man threw a knife at a deputy inside the Danville Courthouse on Wednesday afternoon, narrowly missing a sheriff’s deputy.
Sheriff Mike Mondul said the man entered the courthouse around 1:20 p.m. Wednesday wearing a backpack. He was asked standard security questions before becoming agitated and turning away.
It was at this point that the deputy spotted a a large knife in the man’s waistband. The man turned around and concealed his right hand from the deputy’s view, posturing himself as if he had a weapon. Without warning, he suddenly tossed the knife at the deputy. ....

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) - A man was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after throwing a knife at a deputy in the Danville Courthouse.
Just before 1:30 p.m., deputies say, the suspect entered the courthouse with a backpack on. A deputy sheriff asked him standard security and COVID-19 questions, at which point the Danville Sheriff’s Office said he became agitated and turned to face a temperature station. ....

Earlier this year, a new Danville-themed Monopoly game began to fly off the shelves at Walmart on Mount Cross Road. Danville citizens were excited to play a game in which they could buy properties that are familiar to them, but some were not impressed with the Danville-opoly game board.
Tommy Bennett, president of the NAACP Danville Branch, said his phone rang off the hook with calls asking if heâd seen the game board, and its apparent lack of diverse Danville landmarks.
âItâs not [representative of] the All-America City of Danville,â Bennett said.Â
The board does feature properties such as the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History, Bridge Street, Averett University, George Washington High School, the Danville Science Center, Ballad Brewing, the Danville Courthouse and more.
