Illinois DOT Issues $7 Million for Local Truck Traffic Projects

The Illinois Department of Transportation awarded $7 million in support of projects that will upgrade roads to better accommodate local truck traffic.
The funding was distributed unevenly across 21 projects, which represent a total investment of $36 million.
“Illinois is the country’s transportation hub, with freight activity a cornerstone of the state’s economy,” said IDOT Secretary Omer Osman. “At IDOT, we want our local partners to have the necessary tools to manage traffic safely and spur even more job creation and economic growth.” ....

Area roads receive IDOT funding for truck program

STREATOR – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that a total of $7 million has been awarded to projects statewide to help with the transportation of goods around the state. The Truck Access Route Program helps upgrade and maintain roads that can accommodate 80,000 lb designated routes. In Streator, East 12th Street between Smith Douglass Road and Route 23 is slated for improvements, as is County Highway 2 in LaSalle County between US Route 34 and US 52. The McNabb Blacktop in Putnam County between Illinois Route 89 and the LaSalle County Line is also on the list of planned projects.

The Illinois Department of Transportation has awarded $883,000 to McLean County to upgrade stretches of two roads to handle local truck traffic.
The grant money is the first installment on more than $7 million in improvements to County Highway 24 near the Tazewell County line and Meadows Road west of Chenoa in northern McLean County. In all, 19 lane miles will be improved to become designated truck routes. ....
