A NEW petition is calling for York to sign up to the  Right to Food pledge as figures show more than 4,000 children in the city are living in poverty.
The national movement is fighting for the Right to Food  to be incorporated into the Government’s National Food Strategy - the first independent review of England’s entire food system in 75 years.
Campaigners warn that despite York s image as an affluent area, many families are struggling to put meals on the table with the pandemic acting as a catalyst to pre-existing issues like food poverty and economic disadvantage. ....

Plea to pensioners in Ammanford area left struggling during coronavirus pandemic

AMMANFORD Foodbank is reaching out to older people in the community left struggling during the coronavirus pandemic.
While campaigns across the country have been aimed at younger families, officials at Ammanford believes the over 65s should not be forgotten.
Ammanford Foodbank Development Officer, Cheryl Dulake, said: We have been concerned that we don t see a fair representation of people over 65.
It makes sense that if younger people suffer financial crisis, then so do people in this age group. So where is the problem? Older people often feel that there are others worse off than themselves and push themselves to cope in very difficult circumstances; struggling to heat their homes, struggling to buy adequate and nutritious food. ....

Huntingdon barber raises money for foodbank on April 12

A barber shop in Huntingdon is to raise money for the Trussell Trust Food Bank when it reopens on April 12.
April 12 marks the first day that barbers, salons and non-essential shops across England can open as part of the easing of lockdown. 
Conor Marks, director of Mr Barbers, is inviting people to book in online so that they can raise as much money as they can for the foodbank.  
He said: “It’s been a difficult year for a lot of people in the local community and we recognise the importance with the role that the foodbank has played in helping people survive the lockdowns.   ....
