Lindbergh's Crestwood Elementary might expand due to mall housing – St. Louis Call Newspapers

The new developers of the former Crestwood mall site, Dierbergs Market and McBride Homes, confirmed at the first meeting of the Crestwood TIF Commission Feb. 4 that they will not be seeking tax incentives for the McBride subdivision proposed for half the 47-acre site at Sappington and Watson roads. But the subdivision could add enough new students that Lindbergh Schools has to build an expansion onto Crestwood Elementary.
St. Louis County TIF Commission member Paul Hampel asked at the panel’s first meeting Feb. 4 how many people the new subdivision could add to Crestwood’s 11,865 existing residents.
McBride shared few details about the housing aspect of the redevelopment at the meeting, but Vice President of Real Estate Jeannie Aumiller said, “We’re still working on numbers and the layout and the design, so it would probably be premature to estimate at this time because we’re still in the due diligence process working on a lot of costs, and that will dictate the ....

Top 10 Stories of Year: Dominated by COVID-19, but other things happened

It’s never been more obvious what the top story of a year was, as 2020 will always be remembered as the year a global pandemic stopped life as we know it everywhere. But South County also made national news with a very inspiring teacher.
1. Coronavirus. The COVID-19 pandemic was 10 separate stories in and of itself, as every event that would take place in a normal year was canceled or substantially changed. Life was not the same in 2020 as it was in 2019 and hopefully will be by this time next year. Masks became a political issue, public health took center stage, we worked from home, most schools and nearly all government meetings went virtual, small businesses struggled and many residents battled health problems. ....

TIF Commission convenes starting Feb. 4 for Crestwood mall plan from McBride/Dierbergs

The Crestwood mall site has its fourth developer in seven years, but city officials are confident that the latest plan combining proposals from McBride Homes and Dierbergs Market will actually be built, with a TIF Commission convening next week.
McBride and Dierbergs, both companies based in St. Louis, announced Dec. 22 that they have the 47-acre former Crestwood Plaza mall property at Watson and Sappington roads under contract from owner UrbanStreet Group after months of negotiations.
For decades it housed an outdoor mall, then an indoor one. But the mall’s last stores closed in 2013. The site at the center of the city has been vacant ever since, as three other plans to develop the property came and went. One major milestone along the way is that UrbanStreet demolished and leveled all the mall buildings, so the land is now level with Watson Road and easier to redevelop. ....
