Self-storage complex to join North Shore development
Stirling Properties has broken ground on River Chase Self Storage as part of the River Chase mixed-use development in Covington.

The 108,000-square-foot storage facility will be located on 2.7 acres off Brewster Road, next to the Brewster Commons apartment community and just south of Sam’s Club. It will include a 3-story building with 594 climate-controlled units and three non-climate-controlled single-storage buildings with 44 drive-up units ideal for boat and RV storage. The facility will also feature 24-hour security and state-of-the-art amenities, a news release said.
Construction has begun on the project, with site work and foundation work already underway. The property is slated to be completed before the end of the year, the release said. ....

Louisiana picks design firm for $14M coastal research center

THIBODAUX, La. (AP) Louisiana has hired a firm to design a $14.5 million coastal research center at Nicholls State University.
Thibodaux-based Duplantis Design Group will design the project, and the building should be put out to bid by the end of the year, the school and the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority said in a news release Monday.
“When Nicholls was founded in 1948, we were 50 miles (80 kilometers) from the Gulf Coast. Today, we are 24 miles (39 kilometers) away,” university President Jay Clune said. “We are the closest Louisiana university to the Gulf, so we have more at stake in this fight to save our coast.” ....

Duplantis Design Group to design Coastal Center

The Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) and Nicholls State University have announced that Duplantis Design Group has been hired to design the Coastal Center.

This announcement officially sets in motion the facility formation phase of the $14.5 million project.
Announced in 2019 by Gov. John Bel Edwards, the planned 33,000-square foot building should go out to bid by the end of the year with construction following the bid process.
A planning and programming effort was completed in 2020 to help determine the location and conceptual design of the facility.
The building will be located on the Nicholls campus at the corner of Acadia Drive and Ordoyne Drive, across from Calecas Hall. ....
