Jacksonville Housing Authority faces choice about interim CEO

Jacksonville Housing Authority interim CEO Dwayne Alexander said Friday he is interested in getting the permanent position as the agency s board faces a decision on whether to directly offer him the job or conduct another national search.
In a highly unusual situation, Alexander has been the interim CEO for two and a half years. He guided the authority as it dealt with problems brought to light by an Office of Inspector General investigation of former CEO Fred McKinnies.
We have totally revamped our systems and we have made tons of progress, Alexander told the board. We responded and addressed every issue they had. ....

Vaccination clinics scheduled at 2 Jacksonville Housing Authority senior high-rises

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Housing Authority officials said Monday that state contractor Agape Family Health will hold vaccination clinics this month at two of its senior high-rises.
The announcement came after JHA revealed last week that the state did not schedule any vaccination clinics at the authority’s four senior apartment complexes during a two-week effort to vaccinate the most vulnerable in low-income government housing.
JHA rents to more than 700 seniors, many of whom lack transportation and are too ill to travel.
Officials plan to vaccinate 500 people at senior high-rise Centennial Towers from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 19, and the next clinic will be at Hogan Creek Towers on March 25. Hogan Creek Towers houses both seniors and people with disabilities. ....

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The Jacksonville Housing Authority (JHA) and Agape Family Health will administer 500 COVID-19 vaccine doses Friday at Centennial Tower senior center.
The vaccination event will begin at 11 a.m. and conclude at 5 p.m., according to the JHA.
Agape will hold another vaccination event on March 25 at Hogan Creek Towers, though the times for that event were not announced. ....

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Thousands of elderly people in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development housing units in Florida have been vaccinated against COVID-19, but in Jacksonville, a swath of senior housing has been missed.
In a tweet Thursday, the Florida Division of Emergency Management said it went to 145 HUD facilities, offering shots to residents. In two weeks, more than 9,000 seniors got a shot.
“All facilities will be visited by March 12. FDEM is committed to ensuring that all seniors who want a vaccine are able to receive one,” the state Division of Emergency Management tweeted. ....

Enrollment to begin next week for Housing Choice Voucher Program

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Housing Authority announced it will be accepting online applications for the Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) and the Mainstream Voucher Program beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8.
It’s the first time JHA has opened the voucher enrollment program since 2018. This year, the application process will be done electronically and will be available 24 hours a day. The waiting list will remain open until further notice.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the JHA office is closed to the public, so if you need assistance with the online pre-application, contact the JHA office at 904-630-3898 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. ....
