New Study Supports Use Of Mechanical Assistance Early In Treating Cardiogenic Shock

The National Cardiogenic Shock Initiative report says early use of mechanical assistance to support the heart before opening arteries to treat cardiogenic shock can improve outcomes.
Cardiogenic shock occurs when your heart suddenly fails to pump enough blood for your vital organs. It’s the leading cause of death in heart attack patients.
New study results show using a special heart pump early when treating cardiogenic shock greatly increases the chance of survival.
KERA’s Sam Baker talked about this type of mechanical assistance with Dr. James Park, an interventional cardiologist with Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas.

Officers Fatally Shoot Man With 'Replica Firearm' After Robberies, Attempted Carjacking, Chief Says – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Garcia said an image of the replica firearm, which he said looked like a revolver, would be released Tuesday.
The incident started at about 4 p.m. as an attempted carjacking near a school on Rolling Hills Lane, Garcia said. The man fled when officers arrived, but police established a perimeter and it wasn t long before a second call came in for a robbery at a nearby CVS Pharmacy.
Garcia said the man fled the CVS and ran across the highway, where officers confronted and fatally shot him.
Unbeknownst to officers who responded to the carjacking, Garcia said an armed robbery was reported at a Fiesta supermarket in the area just before 4 p.m. with a suspect who matched the same description. ....

All day long, Jenny Marr counts to four in her head.
She counts four bottles, four bibs and the four toothy grins of her identical quadruplet sons: Harrison, Hardy, Henry and Hudson. The boys were born into a global pandemic and recently celebrated their first birthday.
It was easier to keep track of newborns who stay in one place, Jenny said. Then they started rolling, and then came the crawling. Now that the babies are on the move, Jenny’s eyes dart all over the room, counting slowly to ensure they’re accounted for.
