SAN ANTONIO The Northeast Independent School District posted on Facebook that they will no longer require clear backpacks for students at their middle school and high school campuses. 
However, the district says the clear bag policy for events will remain.
The video and written post by NEISD Superintendent Dr. Sean Maika explains the reason behind the change, stating that the policy started as an overall safety strategy. But, the clear backpacks have not been as durable as anticipated. ....

CDC: Children, teens continue to struggle with mental health
The CDC is reporting an alarming rise in the number of children visiting the ER due to mental health concerns.
HOUSTON - The COVID-19 pandemic has sparked other health crises including child and teen mental health.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, from April through October of 2020, mental health-related visits to the emergency room went up for children and teens compared to the same time in 2019. The increase was 24% in kids ages 5 through 11 and 31% among ages 12 to 17.  ....

Pediatric psychiatric hospitals, such as Cook Children s Medical Center in Fort Worth, report admitting more young people after suicide attempts this fall than ever before. But families seeking treatment struggle to navigate the complicated health care system. Many of our families are unable to access the services they need for ongoing treatment, Kia Carter, the center s co-medical director of psychiatry, told state lawmakers in December.
