Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine arrives in Amarillo Tuesday

After doses arrived at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo Tuesday morning, the first members of the area’s healthcare community were given the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday afternoon.
As previously reported, the Texas Department of State Health Services allocated two Amarillo entities with 975 initial doses of the vaccine apiece, the Northwest Texas Hospital Pharmacy and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo (TTUHSC Amarillo). The Pfizer vaccine consists of two shots, with the second shot being given to an individual 21 days after they received the first one.
The first 975 doses delivered Tuesday afternoon were stored at the Jerry H. Hodge School of Pharmacy, and then, many of them were given to frontline healthcare workers at both the BSA and the Northwest Texas Healthcare Systems. It will be staffed by the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. The clinic is for those 18-to-64-years-old.

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The first 975 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Amarillo today.
A team of doctors from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, BSA, and Northwest Texas, have been meeting about this day for a couple of weeks now, making frequent changes to adjust to the fluid situation.
They have been doing test runs and watching tutorial videos released by Pfizer, the company which made the vaccine, about how to transfer it. ....

Parkland Memorial Hospital, UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and Texas Health Resources in Fort Worth are among the 19 Texas hospitals set to receive 75,000 doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday.
The first wave of frontline health care workers received the vaccine at Methodist Dallas Medical Center Monday. Vaccinations began at about 10:10 a.m. with the first shot going to 51-year-old Teresa Mata, an environmental services employee who cleans the emergency room at Methodist Dallas, spokesman Ryan Owens said. Mata said she was excited to be the first person to receive it and “wanted to take the risk” because she is diabetic. ....
