SMPD receives safe policing for communities certification

The San Marcos Police Department was recently certified in compliance with President Donald J. Trump’s Executive Order No. 13929, which makes the department eligible for discretionary grant funding to support local public safety initiatives through the U.S. Department of Justice.
Trump signed the order “Executive Order on Safe Policing” on June 16, 2020. The president’s executive order limits Department of Justice grant funding to state and local law enforcement agencies whose use of force policies are certified by independent credentialing bodies designated by the U.S. Attorney General, including the Texas Police Chiefs Association Foundation.
“The San Marcos Police Department recognizes that comprehensive police reform includes policy revisions,” said Chief Stan Standridge. “We are also committed to the tenets of procedural justice: fairness, transparency, impartiality, and providing the community a voice.” ....

Flower Mound PD receives "Safe Policing for Communities" certification

The Flower Mound Police Department is now eligible for discretionary grant funding from the U.S. Department of Justice, thanks to a recent certification from the Texas Police Chiefs Association Foundationâs Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices Recognition Program.
Starting in 2021, DOJ discretionary grants will only be allocated to law enforcements agencies that meet certain standards from independent credentialing bodies, such as the Texas Police Chief Association Foundation (TPCAF).
To become certified and eligible, the Flower Mound Police Department had to provide proof to the Best Practices Recognition Program that the departmentâs use of force policies are in line with all applicable federal, state, and local laws. In addition, the police department had to provide evidence it maintained use of force policies that ban choke holds, except in situations where the use of deadly force is legally permitted. ....
