Dragons on the Purple Moon takes its inspiration from the spoken bedtime story that Martin told his kids, Hannah and Gavin, every night before bed. He wanted the story to be a source of joy and learning for other children as well, so he decided to visualize it in a new children s storybook.
Another motivation behind this book is also the reason why Martin had to take an early retirement from his work in the aerospace manufacturing industry: His son was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. It was the power of imagination, storytelling and make-believe that kept the family s spirits high and helped them get through the toughest of times. At home or in the hospital, Martin wants this story to bring joy to children with cancer and help them grow stronger. ....

Alarcon has been accepted to 14 universities so far and plans to attend New York University to pursue a degree in criminology.
“I am beyond honored to be recognized as a Girls Inc. National Scholar,” said Alarcon. “I have been involved with Girls Inc. since the seventh grade, and at that time Girls Inc. was my safe space playing a vital role in improving my mental health and encouraging me to pursue my career and academic goals.
“My intent growing up was always to become a role model and inspire my younger cousins, so I appreciate this award greatly knowing that I am impacting girls and women all around me.” ....
