Another motivation behind this book is also the reason why Martin had to take an early retirement from his work in the aerospace manufacturing industry: His son was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. It was the power of imagination, storytelling and make-believe that kept the family s spirits high and helped them get through the toughest of times. At home or in the hospital, Martin wants this story to bring joy to children with cancer and help them grow stronger.
Civilians help police stop reckless driver in Santa Barbara SANTA BARBARA, Calif. Santa Barbara police officers were able to arrest a reckless driver with the help of civilians on Wednesday afternoon. At around 9:30 a.m., a Santa Barbara Police officer responded to the area of Cabrillo Boulevard and Stearns Wharf due to reports of a suspect attempting to fight with people. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect who was driving in a car. The suspect failed to yield and a pursuit began. The officer lost sight of the car but responding units set up a perimeter in the Natoma Avenue neighborhood.

At about 7:30 a.m., officers responded to the area of State Street and Cabrillo Boulevard for a report of a man who was reported missing, appeared to be suffering from paranoia, and was asking community members for a gun, said Sgt. Ethan Ragsdale. He added that, on the way to the call, officers learned that the man had out-of-county misdemeanor warrants for his arrest .
Santa Barbara Police Department SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Santa Barbara Police arrested a man Monday morning who armed himself with a broken glass bottle and threatened community members. Officers approached the man at approximately 7:30 a.m. Monday morning near Cabrillo Boulevard and Calle Cesar Chavez. Police say he appeared to be suffering from paranoia and was asking community members for a gun. He also had a misdemeanor warrants for his arrest. Officers say when they tried to approach the man, he reached into a nearby garbage can and removed a large glass bottle. He then held the neck portion of the bottle, which had broken sharp points, towards the Officers. Police say the man then ran off and threatened the driver of a nearby car. They say he struck the closed window of the car with the bottle several times while the driver was inside.

The Santa Barbara Waterfront Department is sponsoring a fireworks display Sunday evening, bringing back a yearly tradition that captivated audiences every Fourth of July. The show will begin at 9 p.m. off West Beach and will last about 20 minutes. Music will be provided by 92.9 KjEE and the fireworks show will stream on KEYT.com. Unfortunately, due to an abundance of caution, there will not be live music or food vendors on Cabrillo Boulevard as in past years.

Noozhawk reader Evelyn Boyle Yes, people should be able to have a clear view of the Fourth of July fireworks display from the Santa Barbara Mission, 2201 Laguna St., according to Suzy Plott, the community development and marketing manager at the Old Mission Santa Barbara. “The only thing that would get in the way of the view would be fog, but hopefully that would not be an issue in the evening,” Plott said. “Although it is not an official Mission event, watching the fireworks from the Mission lawn or the Rose Garden seems to be pretty popular.
