Elizabethton City Schools issues plans for returning to school


ELIZABETHTON — The Elizabethton City School System has issued its plans for returning to school for the new school year. Students will return on Thursday, Aug. 5.
“Our number one priority continues to be the health and safety of our students while being able to provide appropriate academic instruction and meet students’ social-emotional needs,” the school administration said in issuing the plan. The administration also reminded the public that modifications to the plan may be required, based on conditions in the city or in response to information from state and local health officials.

More changes are in store for high school sports events. According the Governor of Tennessee, bands, dance teams and cheerleaders won’t be able to be at upcoming games.

Again, at this time cheerleaders, dance teams and bands will not be allowed at high sporting events. 
As an example of what restrictions are in place, the Smyrna Bowling Center is home to the 2021 TSSAA Bowling Championships that are going on this week. While families may want to attend to watch their child compete, they are not allowed to. Only participating bowlers and coaches are allowed in the Smyrna Bowling Center and those students are restricted to only being in the center during their specific portion of the tournament. ....

On Tuesday, January 19, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed Executive Order 74, which extended certain provisions from Executive Order 70 pertaining to spectator sports and athletic activities, places of worship, funerals, and weddings, as well as encouraging Tennesseans to work from home, if possible.
The full Executive Order can be read below:
AN ORDER EXTENDING, AS AMENDED, CERTAIN PROVISIONS OF EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 70 RELATIVE TO SPECTATOR SPORTS & ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES WHEREAS, Tennessee continues to experience effects of COVID-19 that warrant extending certain provisions of Executive Order No. 70 as amended herein; and WHEREAS, in addition to the other powers granted by law, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 58-2-107, provides, among other things, that during a state of emergency, the Governor is authorized to suspend laws and rules if necessary to cope with an emergency, utilize all available state and loc ....

High School Sports: Dyer County announces guidelines for games during Executive Order 70 (12/23/20)

Following Tennessee Governor Bill Lee s signing over Executive Order 70 on Sunday night, the Dyer County School system released a statement on Tuesday afternoon in regards to the order as well as the guidelines released by the Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association earlier in the day.
The statement read:
“On December 20, Governor Bill Lee signed Executive Order 70, which limits indoor gatherings to 10 or more people and encourages those gatherings to only include immediate family household members.  While the spread of the virus is at an all-time high, Dyer County Schools must do our part to prevent further spread.  In Governor Lee s address he also discussed the importance of school activities, but he went on to say that further restrictions would be released from TSSAA.  Those guidelines were released on Monday, December 21.  Dyer County Schools will continue to do our part to keep our students and staff healthy and safe an ....
