JMCSS workforce development center to have seven programs, expand options

A workforce development center being renovated behind Jackson Central-Merry Early College High will have seven programs available for all Jackson-Madison County School System high schools, house the renowned Local Options and Opportunities Program (LOOP) and offer more than one path to students goals, according to career and technical education director and JCM-ECH principal Nathan Lewis.
Each umbrella area – health sciences, welding and advanced manufacturing – will have a classroom with a lab adjacent to it for students to immediately transition to hands-on activities to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom.
Under health science, there are four programs: Diagnostic Services, Nursing Services, Sport and Human Performance and Therapeutic Services. Advanced manufacturing includes mechatronics and machining, and welding is its own program. ....

Law enforcement help capture loose zebra in Middle Tennessee
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Law enforcement officials helped capture a loose zebra in middle Tennessee after it escaped from an exotic livestock auction.
According to news outlets, Cookeville Police Department and Putnam County Sherriff’s office assisted Triple W employees capture the “agitated” zebra early Friday morning. Cookeville is about 80 miles (128 kilometers) east of Nashville.
The zebra ran onto Highway 111, but was not hurt due to the lack of traffic. Multiple methods were used to attempt to regain control of the animal. At one point, two police officers made “unsuccessful attempts” to deploy stun guns to redirect or capture the animal. ....

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (AP) A former Tennessee College of Applied Technology employee has been charged with stealing more than $60,000 from the school.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says Valerie Carrier was indicted Monday on a theft charge in Carter County.
She surrendered to authorities Wednesday. The TBI says Carrier was the coordinator of financial services for the technology college in Elizabethton.
The TBI said agents found financial discrepancies involving refunds to student accounts.
Investigators said Carrier used her position to steal from the college.
It’s unclear whether Carrier has an attorney who can comment for her. ....

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (AP) A former Tennessee College of Applied Technology employee has been charged with stealing more than $60,000 from the school.
Valerie Carrier, 55, was indicted Monday on a theft charge in Carter County, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said. She surrendered to authorities Wednesday.
Carrier was the coordinator of financial services for the technology college in Elizabethton, the TBI said.
Agents found financial discrepancies involving refunds to student accounts between February 2018 and April 2019, the state police agency said.
Investigators said Carrier used her position to steal more than $60,000 from the college. She has been fired. ....
