KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Recovering from substance abuse is one of the most challenging and grueling processes anyone can go through. But it's also one of the most worthwhile, giving people another chance to live their lives.
A recovery program that helps mothers overcome addiction is building a new facility to provide affordable housing for them. The program is called Susannah's House and officials with it said that the new units will be for people working to get a second chance.

State Court Officials Cite Benefits Of New Laws Affecting The Courts

State Court Officials Cite Benefits Of New Laws Affecting The Courts
Saturday, July 3, 2021
Tennessee lawmakers passed several key pieces of legislation this year that officials said will improve and impact the state’s court system.
State court officials said, "From the creation of new three-judge panel to hear certain constitutional challenges to the expansion of recovery courts and safe baby courts, the new laws allow the courts to modernize and innovate. Several pieces of legislation also focus on improving data collection in the state courts and in juvenile courts, which will allow for data driven decision making and better resource allocation while continuing the Administrative Office of the Courts efforts to be a world-class repository of court data from every level of court in the state."

Mental health and substance use disorders are very real, life-threatening, debilitating illnesses. And, with proper care, they are often treatable.
Tennesseans can feel more at-ease knowing many health insurance plans can help cover the cost of treatment for these disorders – helping relieve families of major financial burdens.
In light of Mental Health Awareness Month and the upcoming Insurance Awareness Day on June 28, the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI) encourages Tennesseans to know more about their coverage when it comes to mental health and substance use treatment.

Take Back Day gives Tennesseans chance to dispose of prescription drugs

WBBJ TV
April 20, 2021
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Two organizations are encouraging Tennesseans to take part in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Take Back Day.
Take Back Day is Saturday, and gives residents the chance to discard of expired, unused, unwanted, and potentially dangerous prescription drugs.
“This is an important program for both health and environmental reasons,” said Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner David Salyers. “It’s a convenient way to rid a household of prescription drugs that are no longer needed, and it keeps those drugs out of our water supply. We are happy to partner with the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services on this effort. The partnership helps make this program succeed.”
