County to renovate the courthouse as part of energy plan

LANCASTER - The Fairfield County commissioners on Tuesday took the first step in renovating the county courthouse by passing a resolution setting up financing for a $6 million energy conservation project.
The courthouse renovation is a major part of the project and will include a new roof for the building.
The work will also include replacing the windows in the adjacent Hall of Justice, improve the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in some buildings and installing a solar array at the title office at the Liberty Center, among numerous other items. The solar array will act as an experiment and maybe lead to other county buildings using solar energy, county facilities manager Dennis Keller said. ....

LANCASTER - Sometimes it can be difficult taking care of a 2,500 square-foot home when things break down or other emergencies arise. Just imagine, though, being responsible for more than 543,000 square feet of property.
But that is exactly what Fairfield County facilities manager Dennis Keller is in charge of. He is responsible for maintaining all 25 or so of the county s buildings, which equals 543,000 square feet.
All those buildings have to be taken care of and periodically renovated, Keller said. Every once in a while the commissioners want to replace a building or build a new building like the jail project. All those things fall under my guidance as far as how to get it done and how to manage it. ....

The ties may create conflicts of interest when boards pick auditors and review their work.
The new SEC chair soon could revisit which auditor relationships it sees as OK and not OK.
Hiring board members with years of experience at a Big Four firm can be a big boon for large companies, as accounting experts can guide them through the auditing process and address weak spots.
But when a board member previously worked at the accounting firm that then audits their company, the direct relationship could increase the risk of conflicts of interests, experts and watchdogs say, especially if they re on committees that elect auditing partners, which conduct independent reviews of financial records to ensure they re correct and follow ....

After graduating, an opportunity arose for new experiences in the form of a flight attendant’s position with Jetstar airlines. Yok jumped at it, seeing it as a chance to meet people and see something of the world.
