NORTHAMPTON, Mass., April 12, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Smith College President Kathleen McCartney today announced the appointment of Lisa Howie as the college s first chief investment officer, a key step in bringing management of the college s endowment
in-house. Howie currently serves as a director in the Yale University Investments Office, where she has spent the past 12 years.

The $2 billion fund, now in the market for its first CIO, decided it’s big enough to shift asset management internally.
Smith College is about to start a search for the inaugural investment chief for its endowment, which it will move to internal management after outsourcing assets for more than a decade, the school said Thursday.
A search for the chief investment officer at the women’s school in Northampton, Massachusetts, will be conducted by executive search firm David Barrett Partners, and overseen by investment committee chair Deborah Farrington, an alumna of the school. ....

Smith College to Move Endowment Investment Function In House

Smith College announced on Thursday it is establishing its own in-house investment office to manage endowment assets, a move that it says puts the school’s model in line with that of other colleges and universities with similar assets.
The university had been outsourcing the management of its endowment to outsourced CIO firm Investure since 2004. Smith will continue to work closely with that firm over the next several years as it transitions its investment positions and makes other necessary arrangements, according to a statement announcing the move.
A search for the college’s first CIO will be chaired by Smith alumna Deborah Farrington and supported by recruiting firm David Barrett Partners. ....
