COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — Every March for the past 36 years, activists from the Farm Animal Rights Movement have encouraged Americans to not eat meat for a day. Instead, they challenge the public to consume plants and plant-based products for their meals. This year s MeatOut comes with an official endorsement from Colorado Governor Jared Polis.
The proclamation naming March 20, 2021, as MeatOut Day lists health risks associated with meat-based diets and celebrates the environmental benefits of vegan and vegetarian lifestyles.
While the occasion is welcomed by the vegan community, cattle ranchers see it as a slight against their industry. ....

State commission planning wolf reintroduction putting stakeholder feedback ahead of speed

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS The commission tasked by voters to develop a plan to reintroduce gray wolves in Colorado by the end of 2023 will reportedly take its time to gather feedback from a wide variety of stakeholders.
The prodding pace has garnered pushback from supporters of reintroduction who say such a long process could make the Colorado Parks and Wildlife commission miss the deadline for wolves to be released set by voters in November.
“We’re very early in the process,” said Commission Chair Marvin McDaniel. “There is a lot of strong commitment by every commissioner to involve the folks on the Western Slope or anywhere that is going to be affected by this.” ....

Coloradans Are Split On Speed Of Wolf Reintroduction As Federal Complications Loom

/
A male grey wolf walks through a snowy field in Wyoming. Wyoming has an estimated 311 grey wolves living in the state following their reintroduction to Yellowstone National Park in the mid-1990s.
As Colorado embarks on an effort to reintroduce gray wolves, two competing packs are starting to form.
One wants to run, and the other wants to walk.
Gov. Jared Polis is leading the pack wanting to speed up the process, saying wolves “take care of themselves” and will be easier to release into the landscape than other animals Colorado has already brought back, including the Canada lynx and the black-footed ferret. ....

Climate: Biden, 30 by 30 and feeding the world

It’s not yet clear exactly how the word “conserve” will be applied to the 30% of lands and oceans that proponents are touting be done by 2030. However, President Biden has penned his support and put into motion the process of planning to meet this proposal. Biden signed a Jan. 27 executive order, creating the National Climate Task Force consisting of the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and other department heads.
According to the order, the “Task Force shall facilitate the organization and deployment of a government-wide approach to combat the climate crisis. This Task Force shall facilitate planning and implementation of key federal actions to reduce climate pollution; increase resilience to the impacts of climate change; protect public health; conserve our lands, waters, oceans and biodiversity; deliver environmental justice; and spur well-paying union jobs and economic growth. As necessary and appropriate, members of the Task Force will engage on these matters with st ....
