SPOKANE, Wash The Spokane City Council adopted an ordinance on Monday night that makes certain activity by armed groups a misdemeanor under city code.
The move was designed to deter militias from patrolling the streets, a concern that began with protests last summer and was heightened by recent political violence at the U.S. Capitol.

Spokane porch pirates arrested for second Christmas in a row

SPOKANE, Wash. Two porch pirates accused of stealing dozens of Christmas presents off porches in Spokane last year has been arrested again, police said on Thursday.
The Spokane Police Department received a call at about 1:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve from someone reporting that their neighbor had a package stolen off of their front porch near the 2500 block of W. Crown Avenue, according to Sgt. Terry Preuninger.
The caller gave police a description of the suspect vehicle and license plate, along with a description of the suspects. 
Surveillance video that the victim provided to police showed a woman with dark hair and distinctive highlights, a 12 hoodie and distinctive black shoes with white soles going up to the packages and looking at them, Preuninger said. The victim told SPD that the stolen package was the gift of a jack-in-the-box for a child.  ....

SPOKANE, Wash. One man was arrested after shots were fired during a fight between two half-brothers in a parking lot at Spokane s NorthTown Mall, according to police.
The Spokane Police Department received a call at about 10:20 a.m. regarding multiple people getting out of their cars to fight, Sgt. Terry Preuninger said. The incident happened on the west side of the mall parking lot near Barnes and Noble. 
According to police, Brendan Rayburn and Jacob Ball had been in an ongoing dispute and met at the mall to fight. Ball allegedly brought two other people and a metal pipe, while Rayburn brought a handgun, Preuninger said. ....

Package thief caught on camera stealing from South Hill home

SPOKANE, Wash. It happens every year. Package thieves steal Christmas gifts from your front porch. This year is no different. A man in the South Hill caught someone taking five packages from his home on Thursday in broad daylight.
Chris Zentz said the packages were delivered around 1:30 p.m., according to his Ring camera. He was downstairs when his camera went off again about an hour later.
“I looked and I saw someone walking away with a whole basket full of our Christmas presents, jumping in their Black Ford Focus and driving away,” Zentz said. ....
