HIGH DEMAND, SHORT SUPPLY: Some manufactures unable to provide Bahamas with vaccines until 2022, says Brennen


Forbes notes additional shots may be needed as boosters
NASSAU, BAHAMAS  While the government is working to secure additional batches of COVID-19 vaccines, some manufacturers may not be able to provide The Bahamas with doses until 2022, according to Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Delon Brennen.
During a Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) town hall meeting yesterday, Brennen noted that bilateral agreements are ongoing with the government of The Bahamas and vaccine manufacturers.
“Many of them, because of the contracts and the arrangements they have with some of the bigger economies, they are not making vaccines available until well into 2022,” he said. ....

Brennen: Bahamas likely to access more than one COVID-19 vaccine

NASSAU, BAHAMAS Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Delon Brennen said as The Bahamas continues preparations for a COVID-19 vaccine to be made available in-country, it is likely that The Bahamas will distribute more than one approved vaccine.
During a BAAWMAR panel discussion on the vaccine moderated by Dr Khandra Sears, a board member of the NGO Brennen suggested The Bahamas’ preference is to access vaccines more suited for its climate and geographic makeup, including those that do not require ultra-low temperatures, which could present transportation challenges.
However, he said the country will remain flexible instead of restrictive. ....

Sharp rise in new infections, but testing more than doubled


NASSAU, BAHAMAS The Bahamas recorded 38 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, more than seven times the number of cases the day prior and the first double-digit number of infections recorded in a single day since last week Thursday.
There were five cases on Tuesday, one case on Monday, zero cases on Sunday, nine cases on Saturday, five last Friday and 16 last Thursday.
Of the new cases Wednesday, there were 20 on Grand Bahama, 15 on New Providence, two on Exuma and one on Bimini and Cat Cay.
According to the Ministry of Health, seven people onboard a cargo vessel sailing in Bahamian waters near Grand Bahama tested positive for the virus. ....
