Del Norte County’s graduation from the Purple to Red Tier means the local high school can begin reintroducing more students on Tuesday.
But, though Del Norte High School’s principal is excited, saying she wants to do a special welcome back for seniors, she and staff are still ironing out the details. They will explain those details to students and parents in a webinar Thursday.
“We’ll have details on when stable students groups will come back (including) the times and practices,” Principal Alison Eckart said, adding that students will receive special training in their classes. “We’re just so thrilled. We can’t wait to see kids in the hall.” ....

Former DNUSD Athletics Director Faces Sex Abuse Charges In Grants Pass

A former athletics director for Del Norte Unified School District has been arrested in Grants Pass after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl.
Jay Reese, 60, allegedly met the victim at the Grants Pass Walmart on Jan. 28, took her to lunch and then to his home where she stayed overnight, according to a news release from Grants Pass Department of Public Safety.
During that time, Reese allegedly engaged in sexual contact with the victim without her consent, according to the news release.
Grants Pass detectives arrested Reese on Tuesday, acting on a report from Jan. 29. ....

Blended Learning For K8 Students Resumes Monday, High School Students Should Stay Tuned For Changes; Newsom Announces Plan, $2 Billion To Reopen Schools
Local students will pick up from where they left off when school resumes Monday, though district officials are urging those who left town or hosted out-of-town loved ones for the holidays to quarantine for two weeks.
Del Norte Unified School District’s K8 campuses will follow the same protocols they adhered to before winter break, Superintendent Jeff Harris told the Wild Rivers Outpost. This includes daily screening students and staff for COVID-19 symptoms and sending them home if they have symptoms, he said. ....
