ESCANABA After a year’s pause, Delta Force is back in session. Students met both on zoom and in person at the Delta County Commerce Center on April 22 for their first class since the COVID-19 pandemic started.
The theme of the class was “Economic Development Day,” and students were introduced to 10 different community leaders that shared their knowledge and expertise on the local economy, business development, talent attraction, and leadership. An entrepreneurial panel of local business owners also met to share their experience managing their business during a year of tremendous adversity. ....

ESCANABA It’s just seven weeks into 2021 and here we are again with a reminder that it is a very special year for the Delta County Chamber of Commerce as we celebrate the Chamber Centennial. We are so thankful to our members who have allowed us to serve the community and support the growth of business and industry in Delta County for the last century.
Looking back at news archives over the last 100 years, it is obvious that the Chamber was actively involved in the strengthening of local business and community development. As an example, it was reported that the Chamber, in its first decade, was instrumental in leading the charge for the formation of Escanaba’s city manager form of government and launching the legislative movement that financially supported school districts. In the not-too-distant past, the Chamber continued its mission of community development by forming several community and economic development organizations. ....

Solar farm project scaled down | News, Sports, Jobs

ESCANABA TOWNSHIP A controversial solar farm project planned for Escanaba Township has been scaled back once again, but even with the changes, the Escanaba Township Board was hesitant to say they supported the development within the community.
“Going forward, we hope to be able to work with the planning commission and the township board to be able to develop the project in a way that is compatible with the aesthetics and the intentions of the planning commission and the board,” said Peter Moritzburke, of Orion Renewable Energy.
In 2019, the township board approved a stand-alone solar ordinance that would have allowed Orion Renewable Energy Group to build a large-scale solar farm in the township. However, it was later determined that the ordinance was insufficient for the development to move forward and the township would need instead to approve an amendment to the township’s zoning ordinance if the project were to proceed. ....
