AISD parents, students pack in at school board meeting


Aledo High School senior Piper Minick said she was disgusted and physically ill by what she described as blatant acts of racism in the school district and by flyers depicting a slave sale discovered Monday morning.
“The motto in Aledo is Growing Greatness and I don’t know about y’all but I have been taught my whole life by my mom, by my teachers, that actions speak louder than words. It is now time that our students of color can come to school and not be devalued by their peers,” Minick said. “I say this with the utmost respect, no amount of state championship titles are now going to erase the racism here in Aledo and that we are now known for.” ....

Aledo moms speak out on racial bullying

Two Aledo ISD mothers who said their sons were the target of racial bullying addressed the school board publicly Thursday night, expressing concern over their children s well-being and protection.
“We — our families and our sons who are being put through this because of the stance that you all failed to take — feel that you all failed them,” one mother said during the special called meeting.
The mothers said they were notified about the incident on March 25 when screenshots of a Snapchat group surfaced.
“It was a post from a Snapchat entitled ‘(N-word) Auction,’” one of the mothers said. “As I looked down on the screen at the various name changes of the group, it included ’Slave Trade,’ it included ’(N-word) Farm’ and then I saw my son’s name.” ....

Aledo ISD assigns "disciplinary consequences" after cyber, racial bullying

Aledo ISD said it has assigned disciplinary consequences after an incident about two weeks ago involving students at the Daniel Ninth Grade Center bullying and harassing other students based on their race.
The statement was made on the district s homepage Monday afternoon after social media posts referenced an apparent Snapchat screenshot which appears to refer to a group chat created called The (n-word) trading club/slave trade.
According to a report by the
Fort Worth Star-Telegram of one of the screenshots, one person typed they would spend $1 on a peer, and another person wrote in the chat they would pay $100 for someone else. ....
