FORT WORTH, Texas Multiple high school students in Texas are facing disciplinary action after they created a social media group pretending to auction off their Black peers.
The group, called “N Auction” on the app Snapchat, was started by a handful of students at the Aledo Independent School District, just outside of Fort Worth.
One student bid $100 on one student, according to a screenshot of the messages. Another wrote “1$ on Chris. Would be better if his hair wasn’t so bad.”
The district initially described the chat as “cyber bullying” with “racially charged” language in an April 5 letter to parents, but ultimately labeled it “racist” after generating backlash from some Aledo residents. ....

Texas Students Disciplined for 'Slave Trading Game' That Auctioned Off Black Classmates – Your Black World

Texas parents are infuriated after discovering that some white students were “auctioning” and “trading” their Black classmates as slaves in an online game.
The game that was played among Daniel Ninth Grade Campus students in a Snapchat group priced Black students between $1-$100. A student posted “$1 for Chris” and “would be better if his hair wasn’t so bad.”
According to reports from local Aledo news sites, school officials were alerted of the game by a student.
District officials sent a letter to Aledo ISD parents a few weeks after being notified.
“There is no room for racism or hatred in the Aledo ISD, period. Using inappropriate, offensive, and racially charged language and conduct is completely unacceptable and is prohibited by district policy,” read the April 12 letter. ....
