Sharp divide over whether to cull dangerous crocodiles

The 44-year-old man who was swimming at Lake Placid in Cairns on Thursday made a “very lucky” escape after he was able to prise away the crocodile’s jaws.
When a question was posed to Daily Mercury readers on Facebook over whether deadly crocodiles should be killed, there were strong opinions on both sides of the debate.

OConnell Quin said those opposed to the idea should refrain from using insecticides while Shaun Green said he wanted to see the “poxy dangerous things” gone.

If you ve ever stood next to an emu, you d know the deep and intimidating guttural sounds they produce in their throats.
But at a wildlife park an hour s drive from Mackay, the emus politely eat food out of your hands while eastern grey kangaroos gently nudge you for a second helping.

Bredls Wild Farm is also home to five cassowaries, Stella the southern-nosed wombat, Mimi and Bubbles the deer, talking birds, goats, koalas, possums, a sugar glider, a spencer s goanna, alligators and saltwater crocodiles.

I m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here almost quit her post on the United Kingdom show because of a little insect shipped from the Mackay region.
A green ant that bit Holly Willoughby was harvested by Daniel Bredl and the team at Bredl Wild Park in Bloomsbury, about an hour s drive north of Mackay.
We drive around until we find nests, Mr Bredl said.
Green ants are just in trees, everywhere.
We just put them in the buckets and they usually go down with Fastway Couriers.
It s not the nicest job in the world. ....
