She has been researching deaths of educators from COVID-19 in the face of official concealment and obstruction. Pressure has been mounting on the UK government and the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to release data on COVID-19 cases and deaths of school staff. No wonder Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty snapped at a BBC interviewer two weeks ago, when he was asked why teachers weren’t being prioritised for vaccinations. Whitty claimed teachers were “not at a greater risk of acquiring COVID than other professions”, although data had recently been released showing teacher infection rates in some places were more than four times the average. ....

The Fort Matilda club will continue to be sponsored by senior and board level recruitment firm MM Search.
Founding managing partners Derek MacFeate and Kenny Morrice say the impact of coronavirus on grassroots sport has been felt by everyone - and the firm want back the club.
Derek said: With sports like rugby becoming more dependent upon corporate sponsors, we need to support these clubs more than ever.

Coronavirus: Funeral of much-loved North Ayrshire school teacher to be livestreamed

The funeral of a much-loved school teacher and former junior footballer will be livestreamed today (Thursday, January 7) from St Peter in Chains Church in Ardrossan.
David McIlroy who taught at St Matthew’s, St Michael’s and in Kilwinning Academy died in hospital last month aged 69 after contracting coronavirus.
Tributes flooded in from pupils, past and present, as well as those who knew him on and off the pitch. ....

Remembering the lives lost to coronavirus across Ayrshire
Since the first lockdown began 276 days ago, there have been daily updates of the grim statistic that is the coronavirus death toll.
The death of Scotland’s first COVID-19 victim was recorded on March 13, and the first reported death in Ayrshire was on March 17. Since then more than 6,000 people have been taken by the virus.
NHS Ayrshire and Arran has seen 516 people tragically die having contracted coronavirus.
Behind these statistics were real people who left behind grieving families and friends.

A much loved school teacher and former junior footballer has died in hospital after contracting coronavirus.
David McIlroy taught at St Matthew’s Academy in Saltcoats, St Michael’s in Kilwinning and in Kilwinning Academy.
Tributes from pupils, past and present, have flooded in for the beloved PE teacher, guidance counsellor and supply teacher.
David played for Kilbirnie Ladeside and Ardrossan Winton Rovers, he was hailed as a fantastic player. ....
