Stephen Forbes/Stuff Auckland Transport chief executive Shane Ellison says the new AirportLink service is one way to help Auckland Council understand what’s needed to accelerate the rollout of more electric buses. Auckland Transport has today rolled out the new electric buses that will run on the new AirportLink service between Manukau and the Auckland International Airport. The new vehicles will be owned and operated by Go Bus and will run from the Manukau Bus Station to the Puhinui Station Interchange and then on to Auckland Airport and then return. The nine buses were built by Chinese company Yutong with supply and support from JW Group. They are expected to be able to operate for a full shift on a single charge and can carry up to 78 passengers. Auckland Mayor Phil Goff said the new Airport Link was an important first for south Auckland. ....
Wednesday, Jan. 6 Theft on Commonwealth Avenue: At 11:15 a.m., a staff member at an Amazon Hub reported seeing a man leaving the loading dock with a box of items. Police took a report. Assault on South Street: At 12:14 p.m., staff at Bournewood Hospital told police one patient assaulted another. The patients had since been separated. Assault on Kent Street: At 12:42 p.m., a caller told police an unknown woman shoved her as they were passing each other on the sidewalk. Police took a report. Suspicious person at Griggs Park: At 2 p.m., a man reportedly passed by two women at Griggs Park and mentioned that he has many restraining orders and would hurt a woman. The man also allegedly said, “No wonder Boston got bombed.” ....

Giovanni Candelario, 27, of Davis Avenue, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, illegally possessing a firearm in a motor vehicle, carrying a pistol without a permit, altering a firearm’s serial number and reckless driving. “The defendant has a serious record, and these are new serious charges,” Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Tiffany Lockshier said during Candelario’s arraignment Monday afternoon. ....
Service is discontinued on Cordova Street, Davis Avenue, Lemon Creek Road, and Franklin and Fourth Streets downtown. Riders are asked to wait at the Breeze Inn for service on Cordova Street, at the downtown transit center instead of Franklin, and on Glacier Highway instead of David Avenue and Lemon Creek Road. Service could return to normal on Friday. ....
